CONTESTS / SERVICE PROJECTS / COMPETITIONS

As an instructor I have mixed feelings about contests and competitions. It is important that students learn about the way these work and enter them with an informed mind. Please keep in mind the following things:

- you should take them seriously if you are going to enter
- you are not only representing yourself but your, family, future as an artist and community
- you should only enter your best efforts
- you should be prepared to do a lot of research because I already have  full time job
- follow up is your responsibility,
I will certainly provide guidance but contests will be your show not mine
- DEADLINES COUNT
- guidelines matter AND they are all very very different
- there are 100's of things to get involved in and they all have different pro's and con's
- never let a winning entry hinder your improvement as an artist
nor a loosing entry stop you from trying again
- you NEVER NEVER know why you lost...
it could be a simple as that there were too many entries that
were the same subject matter, size, medium or style
