Clarifying Blog Post
This blog post is to provide clarification around the national standards work for arts education. I have received questions, emails, and phone calls from arts educators and others wondering about where their local work fits with the “Common Core State Standards” (CCSS) and what is happening with the national work in arts education. Hopefully this post will answer questions and provide you with information to help guide your work at the local level.
Click here for the rest of this post.

Here is what Argy recommends you do to keep up with progress.
  • Read the blog on a regular basis for updates – I will provide updates as the work progresses.
  • Check the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards  as changes occur there will be news releases documented there.
  • Be proactive at the local level providing information on the arts education standards work as it unfolds.
  • Stay abreast of Maine’s arts assessment initiative so you can communicate with your administration, colleagues, and parents.
NOTE: The College Board has partnered with the NCCAS for the development of the Core Arts Standards. You can search the College Board Web Site for Documents and Reports using the key words National Core Arts Standards. These are all of Argys posts that are TAGGED with National Coalition For Core Arts Standards

NOTE: There are several lists of assessment terminology. The list used by the Maine Arts Assessment Initiative is not set in stone. The purpose of such a list is to encourage local conversations about what these things are and what they look like at the local level.
This is the Maine Arts ASSESSMENT TERMINOLOGY.

BELOW OPENS BETTER IN SAFARI!
This is a PDF posted on the Partnership for 21st Century Skills web site. It is titled as an Arts Skills and Resources Map.  The map provides educator-created examples of how art subjects (dance, music, theatre, and visual and media arts) can be fused with skills to create engaging learning experiences that promote 21st century knowledge and skill acquisition. In addition to aligning teaching and learning to the demands of today’s world, the map cites specific student outcomes and provides project examples for grades four, eight and 12. (* common core is discussing major assessments in "bridge" years)
